At the occasion of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul, FISU Acting President Leonz Eder had the opportunity to meet with the leaders of the International Boxing Association (IBA), as well as with Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay, President of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TUSF) and Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer, his predecessor and FISU EC Member.
In addition, Eder met the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu.
Mehmet Günay thanked the Minister for its continuous support for TUSF activities and FISU events in Turkey. He reiterated the importance for his federation to organize events such as the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports in Samsun and the FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball in Istanbul later this year.
Both Minister Kasapoglu and President Günay confirmed that Turkey is ready to host even more FISU events in a near future.
“Turkey has been playing a major role in FISU for many years,” Eder said. “We are grateful for the readiness of TUSF to support FISU, especially in the current difficult period.”
IBA President Umar Kremlev thanked FISU for the cooperation between the two federations, which recently renewed a MoU. He stressed their willingness to intensify this cooperation.
